Discover the World’s Most Famous Beach

Daytona Beach is a top destination known for its sun-kissed shores, warm blue waters, and perfect Florida sunshine. But did you know Daytona offers much more than just a beach paradise? This iconic location has a treasure trove of quirky and interesting facts that’ll get you excited to explore this charming city and see something new.

Feel the Need For Speed

NASCAR had its first race on Daytona Beach – literally! That’s right, before the construction of the Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR held races on beach-road courses. This popular sport grew so quickly that by the time the “World Center of Racing” opened in 1959, the first-ever DAYTONA 500 was ready to go that February. A crowd of 41,000 passionate fans showed up ready to join the fun.

Today, this 500-acre motorsport complex hosts nine major events, including car shows, car and motorcycle racing, and concerts. You can tour this world-renowned racing center, learn about NASCAR history and famous racers, and even walk on the racetrack. It’s the perfect outing for racing enthusiasts and families alike.

Speaking of speed, while Ormond Beach is referred to as “the Birthplace of Speed”, Wire 3 began with fiber internet in Daytona Beach before expanding around Volusia County and Florida! Take a Photo with the Town Dog

Daytona residents didn’t know they’d all soon fall in love with a large, brown stray dog when it walked into their city one fateful day in 1940. Brownie, the Town Dog, quickly became a favorite as he hung out with cab drivers, played with kids in the park, and mingled with shoppers. Brownie became so popular that he got his own fancy dog house and a bank account with his name on it, which the caring residents donated to.

This friendly pooch rose to national fame, attracting tourists from all over the U.S. who stopped by to snap photos with him. Every Christmas, he received gifts, embodying the spirit of being “owned by no one, loved by all.” You can connect with Brownie’s heartwarming and inspiring tale by visiting the Brownie the Town Dog’s Grave & Memorial at Riverfront Esplanade.
