The Process Behind High-Speed Internet
In today’s digital age, everyone is in search of the fastest and most reliable internet connection. And if you call Florida’s Space Coast or Treasure Coast home, you’re in luck. Wire 3 is your trusted, local partner for all things fiber-optic internet.
But what does it mean to have a fiber-optic connection? And how is it installed?
Let’s make sure no wires get crossed with a deep dive on how it actually works.
The Basics of Fiber Internet
Fiber-optic internet is a revolutionary way of transmitting data. Instead of conventional copper wires, which are susceptible to interference and degradation over long distances, fiber-optic cables use thin strands of glass or plastic to transmit data as light. This results in faster speeds, greater bandwidth, and more reliable internet connectivity. Simply put, fiber-optic technology is the future of internet connectivity.
Using fiber-optic internet, Wire 3 can bring speeds of up to 10 Gbps (billions of bits per second) to your home. To put that in perspective, the file size of your average 4K movie is about 21 GB (gigabytes) — that means it will take just over two seconds to download with Wire 3’s Ludicrous Speed.
Step-by-Step Installation Process
Pre-installation Survey
Before we lay down any cables, our dedicated team from Wire 3 will visit your location. This initial survey helps us understand the landscape and decide the best route for the fiber-optic cable. We are currently operating in Volusia and Brevard counties, with expansions planned for Indian River and St. Lucie counties soon.

Trenching
Depending on your location, we might need to dig small trenches to lay the cables. Rest assured, we will do our best to minimize disruption and restore the area to its original state once the installation is complete.
Laying the Fiber
The fiber-optic cable, made up of thin strands of glass or plastic, is carefully laid within these trenches. This process is meticulously carried out to ensure the integrity of the cable.
Connecting to Your Home
Once the main cable is laid, a smaller connection called a “drop fiber” is extended to your home. This will connect your home to our main network.
Setting Up the Optical Network Terminal (ONT)
The ONT is a small box installed either inside or outside your home. It converts the light signals from the fiber into electronic signals that your computer or TV can understand.
Testing
The last step in the installation process is testing. We want to ensure that your internet connection is fast, stable, and reliable. Our team will run various tests to ensure everything is up to our high standards.
Why Choose Fiber Internet with Wire 3?
At Wire 3, we believe in the power of community. That’s why our entire team is locally based. From customer service to installation, you’ll always interact with a familiar face who understands the unique needs of Florida residents.
With fiber-optic technology, you can enjoy faster download and upload speeds than ever before. Whether you’re streaming movies, attending virtual meetings, or playing online games, everything feels instantaneous. Additionally, weather changes, electromagnetic interference, and other factors can affect traditional copper cable connections. With fiber, you don’t have to worry about these issues. Your connection remains stable, no matter the external factors. The only downside is you won’t be able to blame poor performance on a slow connection during your next gaming session.
As your digital needs grow, so does the demand for higher internet speeds. Fiber-optic technology is scalable, meaning as the need for speed increases, your fiber connection is ready to handle it.
